Hi Mike,

I really need to say just how much we all enjoyed the band on Saturday night: I still have the bruises! You and the band were all brilliant and I really do suspect we will be back in touch for another booking sooner rather than later! I heard many great things from the other Rockhoppers who all seem to have enjoyed the evening enormously!

All the best

Eleanor and Duncan's wedding ceilidh and afternoon music: New House Farm, Lorton: Saturday 3rd December 2016

Dear Mike, Carolyn, Rick & Ben,

Huge thanks to you all for playing at our wedding at New House Farm on 3rd December. We've had so many comments from our guests on what a great time they had and the highlight of the day was definitely the ceilidh! You played the perfect variety of music and we were impressed with all the different instruments you could all play! You did a fantastic job as caller, Mike - not easy to control drunk and excitable wedding guests!

Carolyn also played a fantastic set on the fiddle down in the cow byre - it really added a great atmosphere as soon as people arrived. All in all, it suited the style of our day just perfectly.

You were super organised as well in the run up to it all - despite our organisation, the timings on the day didn't go quite to plan! I'm sorry you arrived and we weren't even on to the pudding! Thank you for making it work so well despite a change in set up.

Wishing all of you a very happy Christmas and best wishes for 2017.
Eleanor & Duncan

Reghed/CAN Mountain Festival: Ceilidh: Saturday 7th November 2015

Dear Mike,

The Ceilidh was brilliant and so was Striding Edge. Please extend our thanks to everyone. As soon as we have settled the dates for the next Mountain Arts Festival I will let you know and book you again.

You were clearly the star attraction because it was a complete sell out; we couldn’t have squeezed another body onto the dance floor. For myself, I could barely walk on Sunday morning due to all the stamping!

With many thanks again and kind regards to you all,

Denise

Jamie and Jo's wedding ceilidh: Coniston Coppermines Cottages: Coniston: 1st August 2015

Mike,

Thanks for playing at our wedding. We had an absolutely amazing day and the Ceilidh was just brilliant fun. Lots of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the dancing. Although I know that you played for a long time it certainly didn't feel like it. The evening just seemed to whiz by. It was obvious that you were all enjoying playing for us and I think that really added to the atmosphere.

I would not hesitate to recommend Striding Edge to all of our friends.

Thank you,

Jamie & Jo.

I feel it was a real blessing that I found you and you were available for my sister's celebration.

Wedding of Selene and Will: High Close Youth Hostel: 3rd January 2015.

Dear Michael,

We would very much like to thank you and your band for an absolutely fantastic Ceilidh! Music was truly a key part of the day. We have been to many Ceilidhs at every opportunity but we have never experienced music/calling as good as at college… that is until Striding Edge!! You were fantastic and very patient - everyone kept complimenting the band and saying how clearly you gave instructions/called during the pieces. We had all ages, abilities and levels of boisterousness in the crowd and you catered to them all!

It was also very interesting to hear about your band’s skills in Chinese traditional instruments!! We will have to bear that in mind for the future!

Many thanks,

Selene and Will

Wedding of Liz and Ian: Broadoaks Country House, Windermere: 11th October 2014

Hello

Iain and I just wanted to send a quick email now we are back from our honeymoon to thank yourselves for playing at our wedding on the 11th October. We had a fantastic time and it was the perfect ending to our wedding day. Our friends and family all thoroughly enjoyed it and many commented on how good a ceilidh band you were and how much they enjoyed the music.

We will certainly be recommending you to anyone looking for a ceilidh band and will look out for any community functions you are playing at in the future.

I hope your colleagues enjoyed playing for us as much as we enjoyed listening and dancing to their music. Please pass on our thanks and gratitude as I said for a fantastic evening.

Birthday of Ben, Richard and Rory: Ambleside Parish Centre: 24th August 2014.

Dear Mike,

A huge thank-you to you, Carolyn, Ben and Rick for Sunday evening. Everyone had a fantastic time - the minibus back to Windermere was buzzing, - as was the breakfast table the following day (27 stayed here on Sunday!). Our foreign guests had never experienced such a joyous occasion and were full of admiration. Sons Ben and Richard were thrilled to bits - and I was especially delighted to see them having the time of their lives. I am sure they will remember the evening for years to come.

The last of our guests left today and I returned to work, so it was back to reality with a bump - but with a smile on my face!

Thank you again for giving so much pleasure.

With very best wishes,

Cecilia

Birthday of Carol: Ambleside Parish Centre: 6th April 2014

Hi Mike

I wanted to let you and all the band know how much everyone enjoyed your music and dances last Saturday! It was a great night and you did a fantastic job of eventually getting most of the guests off their chairs. I apologise for some of my friends clearly not knowing left from right or clockwise from anti-clockwise, but they all enjoyed themselves immensely no matter how hopeless they were! All this last week I have had glowing comments from everyone on how good your band is. I'm sorry I didn't thank you properly on the night itself but I hugely appreciate all your talent and hard work.

With very many thanks to Rick, Sam, Wal and of course yourself Mike,

All best wishes, Carole

Dear Mike,

Thank you to you and your awsome band, we had a great wedding day and your music really topped off the evening. It meant a lot to use that you learnt our request for 'Every River' song by Runrig as the first dance; we were not expecting you to sing it as well so that was awsome, you guys sounded great!

Best wishes and big, big thanks to you all of you,

David and Amy Douglas

Wedding of Sarah and Mathew: Rydal Hall, Ambleside: 16th March 2013

Dear Mike,

We would like to send a much belated but very big THANK YOU for putting on such a great show for our wedding at Rydal Hall in March. We had the most amazing, magical and happy of days which was topped off perfectly by the music and dancing provided by your fine selves! I could not imagine a more perfect band, more fitting to the venue and day and you were great, so patient with such novices and everyone had such a good time! We've had loads of comments from our guests about how great you were and how much they enjoyed the dancing-it was wondefull how everyone joined in from young to old and the smiles and laughs it caused! We have a small video of the last dance and everyone just looks so happy and is having such a great time, the only shame is that it had to end! Thank you so much, we'll highly recommend you to everyone and hope we can come and be part of a ceilidh with you another time!

Our very best wishes,

Sarah and Mathew (Mr and Mrs Binns!)

Wedding of Ian and Leika: Gatesgarth: 30th June 2012

Dear Rick, Mike, Carolyn and Ben,

Just a quick card to say thank you for playing at our wedding at Buttermere in June. The ceilidh was a roaring sucess, loved by everyone young and old; those who have danced before and those new to it. Your calling was spot on, really inclusive, and the band was brilliant-there aren't many ceilidh bands with a trombone, French Horn and double bass-but we're now firmly convinced that there should be! Thank you also for your felexibility with the timing and for letting my sister use your kit- your patience and tollerance was greatly appreciated.

With many thanks,

Ian and Leika Hamilton

Wedding of Amy and John: Merewood Hotel: 19th November 2011

Hi there Mike,

Wow - what a night!!

Thanks for providing us all with an excellent fun evening of
dancing - everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We
were amazed at how many people got up to join in with the
"first dance" and it just seemed to carry on from there. So
well done you for being an excellent caller
and getting all
the guests up - at one point I think the majority of guests
were "stripping the willow" with much mayhem taking place -
very entertaining.

Anyway, thanks again to you all - it was lovely to have a
rest and listen to your songs
and we could recharge for
more hectic dancing. Our little granddaughters and grandsons
really enjoyed the ceilidh and three of the four managed to
keep going till you finished then collapsed into bed!

Hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we all did.

Thanks again

Liz Shakespeare

Hi Mike,

Just wanted to say a massive thank-you for playing out our wedding. We had a great time and have had nothing but good reports since we got back from our guests - I know it was a little tricky to begin with as very few of our party had never taken part in a ceilidh before, but you got everybody joining in and looking like they knew what they were doing very quickly. I think the photographs of the night speak for themselves - lots of very happy, laughing and smiling dancers!!

Many thanks again.

All the best,

Jay and Mel

It really helped to make our wedding a day to remember.

Thanks again,

Dave and Nicola

Wedding of Matt and Nic: Belmount House: Hawkshead: 27th August 2011

Hi Mike (and all at Striding Edge),

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the band for contributing to a wonderful night at Belmount in August.

To be honest I wasn't 100% sure how the idea of a ceilidh would go down, particularly given a number of our guests had never taken part in a ceilidh before (and for me it had been about 15 years since I had been to one), but we are so glad we did because everybody enjoyed it so much. I love how you managed to get so many people (more than I thought would fit in that space) dancing for so long.

Other feedback:

One friend who plays very heavy guitar in various "Industrial Metal" bands in Newcastle (the sort of person I thought would cringe at the idea of traditional music, let alone a ceilidh) said at the end of the night that he didn't want to stop dancing.

My Uncle from Shropshire is a bit of a ceilidh addict (and plays melodeon for a local morris group etc...) and as such I was hoping he'd approve of our choice, and he said you were one of the best he'd heard.

Overall I think this is high praise. Belmount was a great venue and you guys were fantastic!

Thanks again

Matt

Greystoke Village Hall: June 6th 2009 : Wedding ceilidh

Dear Mike, Carolyn, Rick and Ben;

Thanks for putting on your usual terrific show for our wedding in Greystoke. We've had loads of people saying it was the best ceilidh they've ever been to (many of them Scots, with a slight tone of surprise in their voices!) It was just what was wanted and was for me one of the best bits of what was a good day generally.

You also managed to turn loads of French people into massive ceilidh fans: I hope the cheers didn't get to you - looking back at the photos, people look vaguely like they're doing the same dance as each other!

Hope to see you all somewhere soon!

All the best; Diana and Tom

Many people couldn't come as the tickets sold out really fast & others are asking for it to be an annual event in a bigger venue. So whilst things are fresh in my mind I thought I would give you lots of advanced notice & ask if you were available again in Feb 2010?

Let me know as & when - meanwhile have a lovely week.
With kind regards, Susie, Langdale School PTA.

Again, many thanks Mike to you and the rest of your band. Everyone had a great time, from the 2 year olds to those who were somewhat older!!!

I hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Kind regards,

Mark Squires, Headteacher, Langdale CE Primary School.

Hi Mike,

I just wanted to say a big belated "THANK YOU!" for last weekend's Langdale Ceilidh.

Everyone I have spoken to had a fantastic time and loved the band. Our children haven't stopped talking about it all week! And we have been listening to the music on your website every day)

There is talk of making it an annual event...

I would also like to buy a CD. Could you recommend one? We particularly like the fast, dancey songs.

Cheers,

Craig Wilson, Langdale parent and resident.

Dear Mike and Striding Edge,

Thanks for doing a great job, the year 6 pupils were dancing brilliantly by the end. The parents obviously enjoyed seeing their children having such a great time.

Look forward to the next one!

Best wishes; Alex Fisher

Dear Mike and Striding Edge,

First, thank you, all 4 of you, SO much for giving us such wonderful music on Saturday. Everyone loved your playing; a great number of people have been in touch to say how good you were. And the fact that so many people danced, all the time, was a tribute to the quality of your music. I've been listening to the CD and it brings it all back!
I see you're playing at Whittington on Fri 24 April. We'd love to have tickets for that. Can you tell me how much and I'll get a party together.

Again, thanks for helping to make my 60th birthday such a memorable celebration.

Best wishes,

Fenella: Sedbergh 21st February.

Dear Mike and Striding Edge,

Very many thanks for your hard work on Friday night. Everyone had a great night, including myself! I received many compliments on your behalf!

Thanks again; Claire

Dear Mike, Carolyn, Rick and the rest of Striding Edge,

We are writing to thank you so much for playing at our wedding on the 27th December at the Merchant Adventurers Hall in York.

Our wedding day couldn't have been more perfect and the high energy and inclusive ceilidh really topped off the evening. Several people commented how much they enjoyed your music and dancing..the caterer (who does many functions at The Hall) said that he has never seen so many people dancing, and for so much of the evening! That is a real credit to your enthusiaism and hard work. We hope that you enjoyed the function as much as us, our famillies and guests at the wedding! Thanks again and hopefully we'll hear and dance to your music again soon!

Best wishes, Anna and Gavin Haworth: York Merchant Adventurer's Hall: 27th December 2008.

Dear Mike,

Thank you so much for coming down to Macclesfield . It was really a fantastic night and everyone enjoyed themselves! It felt so good looking around the hall at all those smiling faces – I was on a high for days! The workshops have been received well and very positive comments about them from the staff. We raised money that was far in excess of our expectations. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We have a committee meeting this week to discuss the Ceilidh amongst other things- I think there is a definite feeling that we will want to repeat next year… so if you fancy it?

Do please pass on our thanks to Carolyn (did she find Macclesfield Forest?) and Ben and James

Hope to see you again soon

Cheers Emily Ford

Hi Mike,

HUGE thanks for coming to Ribby Hall to play at our wedding on 18th October 2008. We all had a great time and feedback from our family and friends has been that the dancing was something everyone could get involved in whether they had done it before or not. The music is fantastic and the icing on the cake for our wedding day.

We wish you and the band all the very best and hope to catch up with you again soon.

Best wishes

Caroline and Robert Waring: Wrea Green: 18th October 2008.

The band, Striding Edge, was superb. The musicians fully lived up to their reputation as the Storming Northern Roots Band. They pitched the mix of music right for the audience and the excellent calling made it possible for everyone to join in. Moreover, they retrieved the slipped schedule by playing for two and a half hours non-stop, without a break....

Don Shaw, Staveley Beer Hall, 25th May 2009.

Hi Mike

Just to say many thanks for a brilliant ceilidh at Helen and Dan's wedding last Saturday. We had so many comments on the night, and have had many more since, on what a great evening it was and what a brilliant band you were. Peter and I have been to lots of ceilidhs, and were really impressed by the music, and with the way in which you led us through the dances. It was the best we've been to. The snowball dance at the beginning worked really well!

Best wishes,

Kate Dixon: Cockermouth: August 2008

Mike,

Thanks once again for the entertainment at our wedding on Saturday evening. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and thought the band were great.

Thanks once again.

Regards,
Gareth and Marni: Coniston: July 2008

Dear Mike,

Please accept this letter as a token of my gratitude for the excellent music you provided for our ceilidh on Friday night. The variety and presentation was complemented on by everyone, you even set the toes tapping from those who "don't do dancing". Our guest of honour was particularly impressed and was really pleased with the energy you gave the evening.

It is always a pleasure to work with proffesionals who quietly (or not so quietly in the case of Striding Edge!) and discreetly go about their business, adding so much to a special event, and I thank you for your wonderfull contribution to the evening.

With many thanks and kind regards,

Carloine Gunning: Support Services Manager: The Calvert Trust, Keswick: April 2008.

Hi Mike,

just a quick email to thank you for playing at our wedding reception at Staveley Beerhall last saturday (2nd Feb). We had a brilliant evening and everybody has said how much they enjoyed the music and dancing. Some people danced who we have never seen get up before so it must have been good!

Many thanks

Astrid and Tom Gibbs: Staveley: 2nd Feb 2008

Hi Mike,

Hi Mike,

We just had to drop a line to say a very big 'THANK YOU' to you all at our wedding on 25th October at 'The Inn on The Lake'. What a fantastic night Paul and I had, you made our wedding evening one never to forget, our guests are still talking about it. We were so pleased to see from age 8 to 82 dancing away. Everyone had such a wonderful time, thank you once again...everyone should know what a brilliant time they would have if they book you!!
I for one was worried about the teenagers and what they would think, my own daughter had been practising her dance moves for a few weeks before the wedding, thinking we were having a 'disco', we didn't tell anyone our plans and boy did it pay off the teenagers loved it, everyone loved it!!

Thanks again Mike, all the best for the future.

Dear Mike and Striding Edge,

We would all like to thanks you so much for an amazing and memorable evening for Katie's 21st last week at Hawkshead Brewery. It was fantastic to see all the young and old, mixing on the dance floor (after a pint or two!), and enjoying themselves so much. We have had so many friends making superlative comments on the evening! What I find is my jaws end up aching with smiling an laughing so much after thinking about your ceilidh!

Thanks so much again,

Liz, Alistair and Katie MacKenzie, Hawkshead Brewery Staveley, September 2007.

Dear Mike,

Please pass on our thanks to your colleagues

Cheers,

Janice and Ian, Melmerby, July 2007

Dear Mike,

I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you and Striding Edge for a fantastic evening's celebrations at our recent wedding on 9th June 2007 at Saints Rooms, Cockermouth. Many of our guests have commented that they thoroughly enjoyed the evening's dancing, and it proved to be a great way of getting all the guests involved and mixing. Calvin and I had a great time and will treasure some great memories of all the guests mingling, dancing and laughing throughout the night!

Once again, thank you very much.

Regards,

Amanda and Calvin Thomas: Cockermouth: June 2007

Hi Mike

Thanks so much for a fantastic evening. I know everyone had a great time - but you probably worked that out! People are still talking about the strip-the-willow! It was the first ceilidh for lots of our guests, and some of them where so bowled over by it that they're going straight back for more at your show on 13th July at The Kirgate Centre!

Peter Bell: Cockermouth: May 2007

Hi Mike

John and Pat have asked me to write and thank you and the band for coming to the Canberra Club in the Ribble Valley on Friday, 25 May 2007. The feedback from everyone that came to the party is that they had a fantastic night and the beautiful music you all played, the singing and the dances far exceeded Mum and Dad's expectations. It was lovely to see everyone get involved, especially the children, thank you for involving them and for being so patient calling the dance steps. We would strongly recommend you to anyone looking at your website and wondering whether to have a ceilidh.

We wish you all the the very best and hope to see you again at another family bash very soon.

Thanks again.

Caroline Smith: Blackburn: May 2007

Mike,

Just a thank you note for the brilliant gig you and the band played for us on Saturday. Everybody really enjoyed themselves and you even got some committed non-dancers onto the floor!

Your music and enthusiasm made the night really special.

Mike

Thanks so much for the CD & note. I'm absolutely blown away by the success of Saturday night.

It was really important to me that Striding Edge led the evening - as a result ticket sales went ballistic and I could relax in the knowledge that the professionalism and sheer quality of the band would do the rest on the night. And you did! Between us we created a truly thrilling event and by osmosis we raised over £1500 for Macmillan Cancer.

Thanks to you all
See you again soon

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for making my party the success it was. Many of my guests had never been to a ceilidh before and your great music and excellent calling of the dance moves encouraged them to let their hair down. I'll have to find a venue with a bigger dance floor for my 70th!!
Cheers

Elizabeth Millichap: Wigton: February 2007

Hi Mike,

Charlotte and i just wanted to thank you and the band so much for a wonderful evening of sweat-inducing dancing! I can't remember the last time i was so knackered and smiling at the same time!

Many of our guests said it was the best wedding they'd been to, and you guys were a big part of that.

Thanks ever so much for a great night and we hope to come to another gig soon (does that mean we can gate-crash a wedding?)

Grant and Charlotte: Windermere: January 2007

Hi Mike,

Thank you for making it such a great night. Gutted I didn’t have more chance to join in with the dancing. Everyone has been saying how much fun they had. My 6 year old made a special card for her Grandma and wrote “Can we do wot we did agin next year”.

Please pass our thanks to all the band. Hope you had all had a good trip back up to Cumbria.

Best wishes,

To Mike and the Striding Edge band,

I wanted to write and send you our sincere thanks for helping to make our wedding so memorable.Everybody has contacted us to say how much they enjoyed the ceilidh, for most of it was their first experience and clearly won't be the last!

Your instructions were perfect and thanks for being so patient with us and the music was simply superb!

A very big thank you to you all and hope to see you again in the near future.

Best wishes

Dear mike and Striding Edge,

Paul and I are writing to thank you all so much for a wonderful evening of fun and dance. All our guests loved the ceilidh music and dancing.

Kind regards,

Paul and Tricia Groves: 2005

Mike and The Band,

Following you and your band performing at our wedding on the 18th September at Muncaster Castle, Helen and I wanted to thank you all for a fantastic evening's dancing and entertainment. All our guests thought you guys were fantastic and partied the night away. Even the fellas not usually up for dancing got up and put on their dancing shoes- a real result!

Mike, your dance teaching style and patience was great given that you had to cope with a wild selection of inebriated Cumbrian locals and foreigners from around the UK: Nice one!

To all of your future customers you come highly recommended.

Thank you allonce again and may you all continue to reap the benefits of your great talents!

Very best wishes,

Gary and Helen: Muncaster Caster: September 2004

Hi Mike

We just wanted to thank you for a wonderful evening on Friday when you played at our wedding. It was exactly what we were hoping for: Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the music and dancing and it certainly was a lot better than a disco!

Thanks again,

Mark and Angela, Santon Bridge, August 2004.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for a great night. Everyone was talking about the evening. You were all brilliant. Thanks again for making our wedding so fantastic!

Best wishes to you and all the band

Lynne and Jerry: Witherslack: October 2003

Dear Mike,

Now that we have returned relaxed and refreshed from our honeymoon, we wanted to write and say a big thank-you to you and the rest of the 'gang' at 'Striding Edge' for playing at our wedding at the Keswick County House Hotel on 5th July 2003. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves throughout the evening, and as we hope was obvious, our guests had a fantastic time too! The number of guests on the dance floor during the evening (and their variety of ages too!) is testament to your abilities to appeal to a wide audience, many of whom had never been to a ceilidh before!

We are grateful to Mike for his patient teaching of the dance steps to us and our guests, and to the rest of the band for their energetic performances, which enthused the gathered masses! Our memories of the 'nine-pin' and 'basket' dances in particular will stay with us forever!

We both felt that Striding Edge was the ideal choice for our reception entertainment, allowing guests to meet new people, and try something different, all to the beat of a fabulous live band! We would therefore be more than happy to provide positive comments to any prospective customers wishing to speak to past clients of Striding Edge.

Once again, many thanks for helping to make our wedding day such a fabulous day to remember.

Best wishes

Gareth & Hannah Gregory: August 2003

To Mike, Carolyn, Rick and Ben,

I really can't thank you enough!it was a FANTASTIC ceilidh!

I had a really good feeling about you from the info. you sent and also from what you've got on the internet but you were even better than I expected: perfect in fact!

Your music and the dances really were the perfect thing to round off the fabulous day that we all shared. I've been listening back to your C.D. since we got back from our hols. The Carlisle Reel in particular brings back the happy memories and sentiments of the 19th July.

Loads of our guests have told us how much they enjoyed the ceilidh, in particular those very experienced in Scottish Country Dancing! I hope we can catch a public performance sometime in the future

Very best wishes to all of you

Rachel: Eskdale: July 2003

Dear Striding Edge!

A very belated (but better than never) 'thank you' for helping to make our wedding so fantastic!

Our guests, myself and Neil really enjoyed you music and it certainly created the friendly, relaxed atmosphere we'd imagined down at Rosthwaite Village Hall. You certainly lived up to all your promises, Mike, and more, and we'd really like to buy your latest C.D.!

Many thanks again and should we be organizing any parties: you'll be the first we'll contact for the ceilidh!

Best wishes,

Neil and Maddy: Rosthwaite: June 2003
