Iain Hunter: Drums

Iain is one of the most 'in demand' drummers in the South Lakeland area, both for his inspired drumming and drum teaching.

With a background in Scottish ceildh drumming, Iain is equally at home with Afro-Celtic, jazz, blues and rock styles: in fact, perfectly suited to the music of Striding Edge!

Iain is an unflappable veteran with a great sense of humou and strict tempo: Always a real pleasure to work with!

Roddy Johnson: Fiddle, Highland Bagpipes

Roddy was a founder member of Striding Edge in days of yore (1995, to be precise) and therefore is a natural choice when a melody player is needed to step in!

Roddy helped shape the rootsy, eclectic sound of Striding Edge with his diverse frame of musical references; Lakeland, Eastern European, and his own native Scottish! Read about Roddy's adventures with Edge in archive 95/96>>

Of course, it's always great to share a stage with Roddy again when the chance arises, and his lively 'in car' conversation is tonic!

Striding Edge are currently planning more joint gigs with Roddy's new band Dynamo Zetor for 2007.

Wal: Fiddle

Wal is, by his own admission 'a mysterious, though upstanding chap' whose 'beguiling sound emanates from deep within the woods.' (Bouth, near Newby Bridge, to be precise!)

A woodsman by trade, Wal has 'entertained music lovers from the frosty far North to the balmy climes of Southern Europe',which makes him ideally suited to playing with Edge when the time arises! You'll remember Wal when you see him play with us: A true original with a memorable stage presence and a big, gutsy fiddle sound!

Wal plays with the groovy/trancy/world-musicy big band SONIC TRADITION who were one of the highlights of SOLFEST (Cumbria's grooviest festival) in 2006.

Wal also plays with rising Cumbrian greats Sonic Tradition, and in Wierd String with Paddy (See below)

Paddy Garrigan: Bass Guitar, Guitar.

Paddy is one of that rare breed of guitar/bass player who can play folk music as naturally as breathing, and yet can strut like Paul Simenon of The Clash!

Paddy is always first choice for us when a bassist is needed to cover for Rick. Sometimes he peps up the sound when we feel we need an extra guitarist/mandolin player: the most notable occasion being Mike's wedding!

Paddy has played with us as far afield as swish Kensington (five doors up from Madonna!) and leafy Aughton village in Lancashire (left). He plays a cool 'Status' bass guitar!

Paddy fronts his own Lancaster band The Pier Group who are really very good! He also plays with Wal in a new trio called Wierd String...

Danny Fox: drums and percussion

Danny is a renowned percussion player from the Furness area: A seasoned professional who's playing has crisscrossed the globe, gathering a range of eclectic influences on the way.

It's always a great pleasure (not to say honour!)to have Danny on board to play the occasional gig with us; a top class player and smashing bloke!
